My research on Regulation in the British Television:

Who and what are Ofcom?:

They are a company from the government as the regulator and competition authority for the UK media industries. Ofcom regulates the television and radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services and the airwaves of wireless devices.

Ofcom operated under the Acts of Parliament, so Ofcom must act within the powers and duties set by the Parliament in current power. With permission from Parliament they set and enforce regulatory rules for the sectors. Ofcom is funded by the fees from industry for regulating broadcasting and communication, with aid from the government too. 

What they do?

They say that they ensure that the UK has a wide range of communication services and high speed services, wide range of high-quality television channels and radio and appealing to many different audiences, television is made sure it is provided by a range of different organisations, audiences are protected from harmful or offensive material, people are protected from being treated unfairly and having their privacy invaded.
